Introduction: The Backbone of Indian Economy
The Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector plays a crucial role in India’s economic and social development. It generates significant employment at low capital cost, supports large industries as ancillary units, and promotes industrialization in rural and backward areas—helping to reduce regional imbalances and ensure more equitable income distribution. The Ministry of MSME, Government of India, in collaboration with its various organizations & institutes has pioneered initiatives that promote growth and development of the MSME sector, including Khadi, Village and Coir industries.
Key Achievements & Initiatives in 2025
1. Formalization of MSMEs: The Udyam Revolution
The Udyam Registration Portal, launched on 01.07.2020, provides free, paperless, and digital registration for MSMEs. The Udyam Assist Platform (UAP) was launched on 11.01.2023 to bring Informal Micro Enterprises into the formal ambit.

2. Access to Credit: Financial Empowerment
Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP)
• 10.71 lakh micro enterprises assisted
• ₹29,249.43 crore Margin Money subsidy disbursed
• 87 lakh+ employment generated
2025-26 Performance: 84,034 new micro enterprises assisted with ₹3,125.35 crore subsidy, generating 6.7 lakh+ jobs
Credit Guarantee Scheme for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGSMSE)
2025 Performance (Jan-Nov): 29.03 lakh guarantees approved worth ₹3.77 lakh crore
Key Reforms:
- Guarantee coverage ceiling enhanced from ₹5 crore to ₹10 crore
- Special provisions for transgender entrepreneurs: 10% fee concession + 85% coverage
Self Reliant India (SRI) Fund
Cumulative (Oct 2021 – Nov 2025): 69 Daughter Funds empaneled, 682 MSMEs assisted with ₹1,823 crore investment
2025 Performance: 9 new daughter funds, 129 MSMEs assisted with ₹613+ crore investment
3. PM Vishwakarma Scheme: Empowering Artisans

FY 2025-26 (till Nov 30): KVI sales of ₹127,606.30 crore (P) compared to ₹110,747.40 crore in same period last year

- Spinning wages increased from ₹12.50 to ₹15.00 per hank
- Weaving wages increased by 20% from 01.04.2025
- Khadi Mahotsav 2025: Nationwide promotion with “Har Ghar Swadeshi” theme
